Richmond, Virginia is situated by the fall line of the James River and was originally a colonial settlement and can still be felt in the city with its structures and cuisine that evidenced its long and rich history — being the only region in the United States where the whitewater rapids are also running through its downtown district which makes Richmond unique. The city is now a thriving hub for shopping, outdoor activities, and culture with lively neighborhoods and an array of restaurants. Since Downtown Richmond was anchored by the Virginia Commonwealth University, it had drawn a large number of younger crowds to be part-time residents as the housing costs are lower compared to the national median. Thirty-eight years old is the median age of Richmond, thus making the region much younger.
