Sammamish is located in the state of Washington and a city in King County. The area where the present-day Sammamish is in the Sammamish Plateau which is a part of the unincorporated King County for most of the years according to the recorded history. The settlers arrived in the area in the latter part of the 19th century, and a trio of resorts was established by the 1930s. The plateau has remained to be mainly rural areas up until the suburban homes, the shopping centers, and the schools that were built in the 1970s and the 1980s. A vote was created to join the neighboring Issaquah failed as well as the incorporation the following year. Approval was then met in 1998 to renew the movement to make Sammamish become a city out of the frustration with the development of policies that were set by the county government.
