Charleston is located in the state of West Virginia and a city and seat of Kanawha County and is the largest city in the country. It sits along the Allegheny Mountains and at the confluence of the Elk and Kanawha rivers that are situated along the southern-central part of the state. Charleston is an area that is rich in bituminous coal, natural gas, petroleum, as well as salt, and used to supply a large amount of these r resources to large chemical manufacturing industries along the Kanawha River valley. Lucite and nylon are being produced in the city and developed and other base chemicals that are being used by consumer plastics. Though the chemical industry is still a principal part of the town, though its economy is more diversified, it has emphasized manufacturing and other services.
